How Alexis Parcells Has Dedicated Her Career to Empowering Women
As a plastic surgeon, activist advocating for women’s health and empowerment, and owner of the skincare studio SUNNIE, Dr. Alexis Parcells is a force to be reckoned with. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, she’s known for delivering the most advanced surgical and nonsurgical techniques. What differentiates her in the field is her focus on educating and empowering her patients. She goes out of her way to give them the most up-to-date information on products, services, and procedures so her patients can decide best for their own bodies.
As an example of the attention, she gives each of her patients, she is known to support them before, during, and after surgery. It’s clear that Dr. Parcells has an incredibly high level of care and respect for each of her patients. She was inspired to pursue a career in medicine after volunteering on a medical mission trip to Morocco, where she assisted patients undergoing cleft lip and palate surgery. She appreciated the dramatic transformation that takes place in the life of these children and their families and became passionate about enacting the type of change in the lives of her future patients.
Now that Dr. Alexis Parcells is an established surgeon with a steady flow of patients at her practice, she’s put a lot of emphasis on changing the stigma around plastic surgery. When asked about this, she says, “I want women to feel empowered and not guilty or ashamed of their choice to have a Botox treatment or breast lift. It’s important for all of us as women to create a culture of positivity and self-love.”
Outside of her practice, Dr. Parcells is an active volunteer for several breast cancer organizations including The Breasties, Minette’s Angels, and Fashion for the Pink Crusade. She also has a strong academic involvement in the community and has authored several textbooks and professional journal articles. She’s presented her research at numerous renowned international meetings, which goes to show how much of an impact she has in her line of work and study.
With all of the success she’s had as a surgeon, it may seem from the outside that Dr. Parcells was born to be involved in the medical field. Interestingly enough, she’s always struggled on standardized tests and was rejected from the med schools she applied to. Rather than giving in and pursuing something else, she chose to study at St. George’s University and continue pursuing her passion for surgery and being able to change lives. She’s living proof that perseverance and grit can help to accomplish any goal you set for yourself, and that you should never give up no matter what life throws at you.
